DAYTON, Tenn., July 15.—Today at the Scopes trial, two high school students (Howard Morgan, age fourteen, and Harry “Bud” Shelton, age seventeen) were called as prosecution witnesses. There was some delay, however, as when lawyers summoned the younger one, he was nowhere to be found. Fearing his testimony might damage the reputation of his teacher, the young man had decided to run away. The defendant, J. T. Scopes—who, for some as yet undisclosed reason, arrived late to court this afternoon—took it upon himself to leave the courtroom to find the boy and bring him back.
