Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
As it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
If I surrender to His Will;
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with Him
Forever and ever in the next.
Amen.
Do Black Dots Matter?
I read a story about a professor who challenged his students with a surprise test. I believe this may have been one of the most important lessons they will ever learn or this wise professor could teach his students. It is all about our focus and the âblack dotsâ in life.
You can imagine everyoneâs surprise when they saw the test. There were no questionsâonly a black dot in the center of a white sheet of paper. The professor gave one simple instructionâwrite about what you see. Every single student, without exception, wrote and attempted to define the one black dot.
The classroom was silent. After all essays had been read, the professor explained why he had given them the test. âIâm not going to grade you on this. I just wanted to give you something to think about. No one wrote about the white part of the paper. Everyone focused on the black dot. The same thing happens in our lives. We have a white piece of paper to observe and enjoy, but we always focus on the dark spots.
âOur life is a gift given to us by God, with love and care, and we always have reasons to celebrateânature renewing itself every day, our friends around us, the job that provides our livelihood, the miracles we see every dayâ¦
âHowever, we insist on focusing only on the dark spotâthe health issues that bother us, the lack of money, the complicated relationship with a family member, the disappointment with a friend. The dark spots are very small when compared to everything we have in our lives, but theyâre the ones that pollute our mind.â33
