Isla

The sun rose over the trees. I watched it come up, sitting on a bench seat under the window in my bedroom. No, not my room. The room in Angelo’s house I was trapped in. Hiding in.

That made three days. Three days, I’d successfully avoided Angelo. I hadn’t left my room once. Bryce seeming to sense a shift, brought me food.

I just couldn’t face him. Not after what I let him do, what I liked. How could I look at him knowing he chased me and I came? Hard. Harder than I ever had.

It was like the adrenaline; the fear had made it better. Had turned sex, which I’d always found to be unimpressive, into something explosive. Consuming. To the point that I’d wondered if I wanted to stay. If the pleasure would be worth my life.

But this wasn’t about my life. It was my father’s life. His choices that had sent me here.

And because I was a pathetic, desperate girl, I was now stuck with him. The six-month expiration had vanished. He was never going to let me go. Thank god I had an IUD. I’d hate to think our time in the garden had an even worse lifelong consequence.

I wished I was stable enough to have kids. But I could barely care for myself.

I had no idea what his new plan was. How he was going to use me against my father. But I had no intention of helping, so I hid.

And surprisingly, Angelo hadn’t come to drag me out. But as I heard a soft knock on the door, I knew my solitude was ending.

Angelo opened the door without waiting for permission. He was broad and strong, taking up most of the doorway. His biceps bulged as he crossed his arms over his chest. His onyx eyes found mine instantly, holding me in place.

But my eyes roamed. I hated him. Still, all I saw was his sharp jaw. His full lips. His intense stare.

My body reacted to his presence without my permission. Heat pooled between my legs. My nipples turned into hard points under my shirt. And my mouth watered.

Even as intimidating as he was. As ruthless as he’d proven himself to be, I couldn’t stop this attraction.

“Come.” I made a small squeak as the words slipped from his lips. “With me. I have something to show you.”

Get it the fuck together, Isla.

It didn’t matter that I was attracted to him. That he made me feel things I’d never felt before. Shown me desires I didn’t even know I had. He was the enemy. The man who’d taken everything from me. And would easily kill me.

“What if I don’t want to?” My throat tightened as I protested.

His mouth twitched into an almost smile. “You can come willingly, or I can chase you out of this room.” He seemed to get larger and the room hotter as he looked at me. “And you know what will happen if I catch you, Beauty.”

My feet were on the floor before he finished the sentence.
