“Office dog” in her younger days

Have a contingency plan for times when she is too restless to settle down. Cricket usually slept with me in my bed, but her particular problem at night was that she would startle while asleep and sit bolt upright. After that, she sometimes got up and moved around, and was at risk of walking off the bed. And sometimes that was an indicator that she had to eliminate. So you can bet it woke me instantly. Several times in the last months of her life, I put her on the floor and let her walk the hall. I hated to do it, because she preferred to be with me. But I needed to get some sleep.

Once again, talk to your vet. There are pharmaceutical interventions that can help many dogs. It is a kindness to explore this. Your dog’s sleep problems may stem from anxiety, but treating them with a prescription drug may help her during the day as well.
