Then, on a scale of 1 to 4, where 1 = not at all, 2 = occasionally, 3 = often, and 4 = most of the time, rate how often you are using each of your coping mechanisms. Example: Whenever you feel negative and pessimistic about the future, you have learned to:

Take care of yourself physically.

Pursue your spirituality.

Divert yourself by doing something kind for someone else.

Search for perspective to help you see how you have exaggerated your situation.

Call a good friend who will let you vent and not try to change the way you feel.

Take some time away from everyone and reprioritize what’s truly important.

Remember what you love about your life.

Think about how to find more satisfaction.

Ask your partner for nurturing.
