Chapter 18

Aly

“Is that steak? I haven’t had a good steak in forever,” I ask Cameron when he comes out carrying a large tray with meat and an assortment of vegetables.

“Yep. I thought we could grill tonight and eat on the patio. It’s not too hot and I thought you might enjoy it,” he answers me setting up the grill and all the spices.

“Hey guys,” I say as the rest of them come out to the patio. Taggert sits in the chair closets to mine dragging it right next to his, I like that he wants me close. I could get used to this attention and the more time I spend with them, the better I feel.

“Aly, how do you want your steak?” Cameron asks standing in front of the grill with his cute apron on that I missed when he came out with the tray.

“Could I please have it medium,” I reply from next to Taggert. I’m so close to him now, I might as well be sitting on his lap. He snakes his arm behind the back of my chair, his fingers reach out to play with my hair that’s mostly still in a ponytail though parts of it have come down from the breeze that’s been blowing all afternoon. I probably look like a hot mess.

“Roman can you grab Aly something to drink?” Taggert directs his gaze to the large man across the table.

“Sweet cheeks, what would you like this evening?” Roman asks standing up heading for a cooler in the corner of the patio. “We have beer, wine, soda, water, or just about anything else you could want.”

“I would love to have a beer if you have any light beers.”

He pulls a beer out and opens it for me. Then he proceeds to lick the top of the bottle before handing it to me. “I hope you like it, and my taste,” he says kissing me on top of the head. What a weirdo, but I lick the top where he did making him groan. I can play this game too.

I feel more and more at home each day and they’ve been treating me so well. I’m also enjoying all the subtle touches they do when they think I’m not paying attention. I feel each and every one of them. I can tell they’re ready to bond as soon as they get the approval from the council. I wouldn’t mind having just a little longer to get to know them better, but since we already started that once before they just want to start right where we left off.It was a shame I didn’t get to tell them about my secret before everything happened. I was so scared when they had black magic used on them, I panicked.

Taggert drags my chair closer to his and pulls me onto his lap. I let out a little squeal of surprise. These intimate touches make me want to curl up and cuddle with each of them. I don’t think they even realize how often they do it, almost like it’s second nature.
