Cade had rushed Melanie to Doctor Bank’s office because she’d been sick all day. It was worse than her usual morning sickness, and he was worried something was wrong. Her sonogram appointment wasn’t scheduled until two weeks from today, but Cade requested an emergency sonogram to ensure everything was okay.

“How are you feeling?” Doctor Banks asked Melanie as she looked over Melanie’s medical file.

“I’m feeling good. A little nervous, though,” Melanie said as she glanced over at Cade.

The sonographer had stepped out of the room and said she had to get Doctor Banks in the middle of doing the sonogram. That had done no favors on Melanie’s nerves.

“I thought you might be, but relax. I think you might be happy with what I’m about to tell you.”

Cade took Melanie’s hand and squeezed it. She was so grateful to have him here and that he missed none of the appointments.

“What is it?” Melanie asked.

“You’re having twins!” Doctor Banks said with a laugh.

“Twins?” Melanie and Cade said in unison.

“That’s right,” Doctor Banks said as she congratulated them.

Melanie couldn’t even make out what Doctor Banks was saying. She was still stuck on the twin’s part. How were they going to handle three kids? Cade put an arm around Melanie and hugged her, and whispered that he loved her. She was still shocked and couldn’t get her brain to work to say she loved Cade. The only thing she could do was smile at him.

On their drive home, Melanie broke down and cried. Cade pulled the car to the side of the road and asked her what was wrong.

“We’re having twins,” she sobbed.

“Yes, we are,” he said as he moved her hair away from her face.

“How...how are we going to handle this?” Melanie asked, searching for answers in his eyes.

“The way we handle everything: together and with help from our families,” Cade said, pressing his lips to her forehead.

Melanie knew he was right. These babies were a blessing, and they would only bring them closer together, and they would only fill their home with more love and joy.

“I couldn’t do this without you,” she said.

“You don’t have to,” he said before getting the car back on the road.

Melanie looked out the window and thought of all the times she’d prayed for a moment like this. All the time, she’d prayed for a love like the one she shared with Cade. All the times she’d prayed for little babies to raise and love. This was everything she had prayed for, and with the help of those around her and God on her side, they could handle anything life threw at them.

As soon as they got home, they reached out to their families to tell them about the big news.

“We are having twins!” Melanie said, filled with so much happiness and bliss.

“Oh, my goodness! Congratulations!” Mary Elle and Thomas both said on speakerphone.

“I’m so scared but excited simultaneously,” Melanie confessed as tears of joy filled her eyes.

“Oh honey, everything is as it should be. You know you can count on us to help you out!” Mary Elle reassured Melanie.
