Prefect Terrok was sulking on the west terrace of his palace. Wisps of Deitum Prime rose from the vaporators around the lush alcoves and raised gardens surrounding him. He was being fawned over by multiple servants and two mistresses, but neither the attention nor the food and drink seemed to help his demeanor. Aunder, Prefect Terrok’s longest employed first advisor, approached the Raylean puppet ruler cautiously.

“Prefect, I have an urgent message for you.”

“Don’t tell me that treasonous band of Partisans has caused another uprising. I thought we’d executed all of them,” Terrok scowled.

“No, Prefect, you’ve been summoned to Subchancellor Pylok’s Skyburough.” Aunder purposefully kept ten feet away just in case Terrok was in a throwing-wine-glasses mood.

Terrok froze. His scowl became vapid then slowly transformed to one of great fear. “When?”

“Immediately, Prefect. A Morian transport is arriving at the palace as we speak.”

“But I thought Subchancellor Pylok was off world visiting his home planet, Moria.”

Aunder hesitated. “He was, Prefect, but he’s just returned and evidently wants to speak to you directly.”

Terrok shoved consoling offerings of food and drink away from himself, causing the servants to spill their tray contents. He jumped up from off his lounge and began pacing.

“This is bad…this is very bad! That blasted Navi! This is all his fault.” He turned his fierce eyes on Aunder. “I should have never listened to you!” he shouted, his neck bulging with muscles and veins. His completely Deitum-Prime-absorbed body was threatening to unhinge with his rising wrath.

“Yes, Prefect, I am deeply sorry for advising you inappropriately, but I would highly recommend keeping calm in preparation for your meeting with the subchancellor. Any display of irrationality will not be well received.”

This seemed to settle Terrok slightly as he considered his fate. He stopped pacing, shook out his hands and lifted his gaze to the sky. “Yes…calm…in control. Perhaps he wishes to commend me for sparing the Morian Empire of a rebellion that would have surely spread to their homeworld in time.”

“Yes, Prefect,” Aunder said soothingly as he placed a gentle arm to Terrok’s back, leading him out of the terrace, through the palace, and toward the landing pad. “Surely your brave actions will be praised.”

At the door portal adjacent to the landing pad, four large armed Morian commandos were waiting for them. Terrok tried to bring Aunder with him, but one of the commandos held up his hand to the first advisor, making it clear that Terrok was to go alone.

During the flight across the city of Jalem, Terrok could hardly contain his anxiety. He gazed out the window of the transport at his capital city. When the Morian Empire invaded Rayl, Jalem was Subchancellor Pylok’s first choice for establishing his governing command center. Choosing the northeastern quarter of the city, he sequestered and renamed the district Skyburough. Over the course of a few years, Skyburough was transformed into a manifestation of Moria, the homeworld of the Morian Empire. The elaborate yet stiff social structure, architecture, culture, and general atmosphere were Morian through and through.
