“As everyone knows, I love to come up with new recipes, so it was awesome fun to bake these cookies.”

George snorted. “Bake or take?”

Nancy froze as the talking outside the tablecloth stopped abruptly.

“Who said that?” Deirdre demanded.

The other scouts mumbled denials. Nancy turned to Bess and George.

“They’re going to look under the table,” Nancy whispered. “Eat the whole cookies—now!”

“Gladly!” Bess whispered.

The girls stuffed their cookies into their mouths. After a chew or two—

“Ewww!”

“Ugh!”

“Gross!”

Nancy squeezed her eyes shut. The cookies were salty—disgustingly salty.

But before she could get over the taste, Deirdre yanked up the tablecloth and glared at the girls. “Spies! Those three were spying on our cookies!”
