1813) Pregnancy tests have existed for about 3,400 years. Ancient Egyptian women urinated on a bag of barley and a bag of wheat; if the grain in either bag sprouted, she was pregnant. If the barley sprouted first, it would be a boy; if the wheat sprouted first, it would be a girl. A test done in 1963 found that the method was accurate about 70% of the time in determining pregnancy but wasn’t accurate in determining the baby’s gender.

1817) Wallace’s giant bee is the largest species of bee in the world; it is native to Indonesia and was thought to be extinct for over a century until it was rediscovered 1981. It is the largest of the over 20,000 known bee species including bumblebees; the females have a 2.5-inch wingspan and a body length of about 1.5 inches; the males are 0.9 inches long.

1818) Fruit flies produce the largest sperm of any animal. Their sperm is coiled up and unspools to about 2.3 inches which is 20 times the length of their body and about 1,000 times bigger than human sperm.
