Chapter twenty-nine

Friends

“Raven!” I hear called out from the back of the house. I giggle when I look over to see it is Ryder, with another boy facing the house. I’m surprised he hasn’t realized Liliana and I are outside.

“Who is that?” Liliana questions as she watches Ryder and the boy walk up onto the back deck to knock at the door. “I don’t know who the other guy is. Ryder!” I call out.

“Oh, hey. What are you doing out here?” Ryder walks towards us with his friend following close behind. “Getting some fresh air, Liliana wanted to relax, and I wanted to draw. Ryder, this is my twin Liliana, Lily this is Ryder, he’s the one I told you about.”

“It is good to finally meet you Liliana, Raven has told me quite a bit about you.” Ryder reaches out and shakes her hand. “Thank you, she’s told me a bit about you too. Who is your friend?” Liliana puts her book down and sits up.

“Oh, this is Jacoby, he lives on one of the properties behind the gate. Jacoby, this is Raven and Liliana Holmes, they just moved here last week.” Looking up, I put away my sketchbook and shake Jacoby’s hand, being polite. When he reaches out to shake Liliana’s hand, I catch his scent and realize he is a shifted wolf.

“It’s good to meet you, Ryder mentioned two new girls our age moving next door to him. It will be nice to have some friends to run around with during the full moon.” Jacoby smiles as he brushes his fingers through his medium length brown hair. He is built rather well and is very broad for his age, and tall.

“Maybe, our father doesn’t like Raven shifting around others, and I haven’t shifted yet,” Liliana pulls the knitted shawl tighter around her, covering her belly.

“You’re not the first late bloomer I’ve heard of, I know Ryder’s sisters haven’t shifted yet either. I have to say hearing you’re not supposed to shift around others has me curious,” Jacoby admits, I roll my eyes then get up and stretch.

“You will just have to remain curious, not even Ryder has seen me shift. I was thinking about taking a walk in the woods to stretch my legs, do any of you want to join?” I ask. looking down at Liliana, she nods and reaches up to grab my hand.

My brows furrow when Ryder beats me to it and helps her to her feet which makes her blush. “Yeah, Jacoby and I were just talking about hanging out on the beach, but a hike sounds good too,” Ryder agrees. Leaning down he picks up the blankets we were sitting on, when I notice Jacoby grabbing my sketchbook.

“You’re really good, how long have you been drawing your sister in this pose?” Jacoby flips to the page I was working on earlier. “Two hours,” I answer, ripping the sketchbook from his hands.

“You’re really good,” he compliments, then helps Ryder grab everything else. They quickly fold and organize everything in a neat pile on the deck before we start walking towards the tree line.
