When I see you,

my heart stops beating

How can I live

when you’re right there?

All of my fear flies away

when you come to me

And kiss my lips

I can’t believe it.

I mean, he is both good at singing and playing the guitar, but it’s my song. Not his.

He reaches the end of my song, and the crowd goes wild. They love him. I stare out in disbelief. They think he’s written the song.

But it was the song I was supposed to sing today…

And Bishop knows it.

Is this all one form of sick joke? Is he twisting the knife in me for telling Axel about us?

“You want to be a singer?” Drake asks once the audience has quietened down, his voice echoing around the gymnasium.

Bishop shakes his head. “I know you want to be the lead singer. I’m just happy to play guitar, that’s my first love. That, and writing songs from the heart.”

“Good man,” Drake says. “I think I might have an offer for you. Come and see me afterwards.”

Bishop waves to him and the crowd before he jumps off the stage on the other side. I don’t even get the chance to intercept him before he’s disappeared.

And then it’s my turn. Truly, this time.

“Chloe Stoll, you’re up.”

Drake’s voice unnerves me, but I continue up the stairs onto the stage.

What can I do now? Perform the same song that Bishop just claimed to be his?

There are lights in my eyes. Drake’s fitted out the gymnasium with nearly everyone that I go to class with. People are watching. Lots and lots of people. My peers from high school.

Drake sits in the front row. His handsome face judging me.

I bet that Bishop is out there somewhere right now, judging me as well. Laughing at me. The thief who took my heart from me.

It’s like my entire world has come crashing down.

“I’m going to perform a song,” I stutter into the microphone, feeling very exposed.

“Great,” Drake says, waving at me. “Go ahead.”

My hands lock around the guitar. My body goes rigid. I can’t even get a word out.

I can’t perform. I really can’t. Not after what Bishop has done.

It’s like he’s stolen the words out of my mouth when he went up here and sang my song.

I don’t even get a word out before I’m running off the stage, never to sing live ever again.
