Ślokas 9-10

“When there are benefics in the 2nd, 4th, and 5th from ascendant or the kārakāmśa, the person will certainly become a king or from these very places there are, in the 3rd and 6th house, malefics or they are aspected by malefics, the person will be a king. If there are mixed planets in this situation the effects will be mixed.”

Comment:

This verse appears to give two types of rāja yogas, one in which there are only benefics in the 2nd, 4th and 5th houses from either the birth or kārakāmśa lagna, or malefics exclusively in houses 3 and 6. The translator’s use of the word “or” between the two statements suggests that either of these conditions can produce a rāja yoga. However, I have had a doubt about this since the Sanskrit word for “or” (va) does not appear in the verse. It makes me wonder if the intended meaning is that both conditions must be met to give this yoga. Certainly, if both conditions are met then it would give a more exceptional rāja yoga.

Such is the case in the following horoscope. Not only are there benefics in the 2nd, 4th, and 5th houses and a malefics in the 3rd, every one of these grahas have a source of strength.

•Mercury in the 2nd is nīcabhaṅga as a result of its sign exchange with Jupiter

•Venus is svakṣetra as the 4th lord in the 4th house and exalted in D-9.

•Jupiter is strong due to the exchange

•Mars is mūlatrikoṇa as the 3rd lord in the 3rd house

•Sun is in its exaltation sign in the 3rd

This is truly an exceptional version of the rāja yoga and it gave rise to an exceptional destiny.
