We exited the room, and Madson was waiting impatiently outside. His arms were crossed as he tapped his foot on the ground. The crowd had already dispersed. I figured they had already left for Emiline's party.
âBy the gods! You all could learn some respect for others and their time, and here I thought you were punctual!â
He rolled his eyes and scowled at us, which I confessed had started making me happy. His time would probably be used to do horrible things to people. I regretted the need to ally myself with him, no matter how briefly it was.
âWeâre here, Madson. Your complaints are whatâs keeping us here now.â I gestured for him to move on. His scowl deepened as he turned on his heel and led us back to his mistressâs room.
Emiline was reclined out in her chair, one leg draped over the arm. The bored look on her face had been replaced by a predatory one, and she even licked her lips when I entered the room. The way her clothes hugged her generous frame was very enticing, and if I didnât know what sort of creature lay beneath, I mightâve been interested. As it were, I only wanted to get away from her as fast as possible.
âHello, Grevic.â Her smile reached her eyes where it turned feral. âMy delicious champion.â
âTechnicallyââI held up one fingerââI was his champion.â I finished by pointing at Madson.
Emiline set both of her feet on the ground and rested her elbows on her knees. The action put her ample breasts front and center to be admired before they disappeared back inside the fabric of her tunic.
âAnd defiant.â She shivered like something pleasurable had raced through her body. âI canât tell you how satisfying it is to not have someone drooling all over my boots. But, my dear champion, the fact of the matter is that everyone who participates in my games is, in fact, my champion.â She finished by resting her back comfortably in her chair, a clear challenge. One I wasnât foolish enough to take her up on, currently.
âNow tell me, my champion, are you ready for the fun part? I know I am.â She didnât wait for an answer before she stood up and walked to the nearest door. She withdrew a key from her pocket and inserted it into the lock. The mechanism made a soft clicking sound, and she pushed on the handle. The portal swung inwards.
I flinched in pain as my senses were immediately assailed. The abrupt sound of the music and smell of the feast that wafted through the opening had my senses on edge. The disorientation lasted only a few seconds.
But a few seconds was all it wouldâve taken if Emiline had decided to ambush us. Thankfully she didnât, though she did smile at my obvious discomfort. I looked at my companions, and they all seemed fine, even Nystra, who I figured would have the same reaction with her heightened senses. She caught me as I looked at her.
