Counter Guy wore an orange T-shirt that said There Is No Planet B, so, naturally, he seemed like the perfect person to tell about our business, and of course, he was totally into it. A little too much, it turns out. He talked forever about climate change and how it was up to kids like me to fix the mess the adults had made. Finally, he handed me two small plastic containers with tiny holes in the lids. Tucking the containers into my wicker bike basket, I started up the hill toward home.

Then I changed my mind.

Counter Guy was so right. Our planet’s in trouble—and that scares me. And makes me furious. Why should kids inherit this mess? But Jaye and I have a way to fix it. Eating bugs could help slow climate change, I was sure of it. The pitch competition was the first step. Once we won, we’d use the money to make it a real company and make real changes. I was on a mission to get bugs on everyone’s plates! Who cared about cello practice? The time to save the world was now!

Like I told you. When I’m into something, I commit. Fully.

So instead of going home, I pedaled down the flat road that led into the east of town. If Jaye couldn’t come to me, I’d go to her. That’s what partners do.
