I took Melanie to the nicest restaurant I knew: Pizza Palace.

Yeah, I wasn’t exactly rich. But I knew she’d like it, and so would I. Hell, with the spell she was under, I could’ve taken her to the seediest dive bar in town and she would have been happy with it.

The evening was going swimmingly. Melanie was curled up against me, gazing adoringly up at me, my hand sliding over her silky smooth thighs. I was just about to go in for a kiss when I spotted her.

My ex, Christa.

Goddamn, what’s she doing here? Christa, who was excitedly hot but mean to her core, was engaged in conversation with some other guy. Her new boyfriend, no doubt.

She hadn’t changed. She was wearing her usual skimpy attire; a low-cut black t-shirt, slutty but hot makeup, with black lipstick to compliment her blue-black hair. She’d dyed it frequently while we were together, usually going for highlights that looked pretty damn good on her.

I stood, watching as Christa disappeared out back. I followed, slipping through the exit unnoticed. I spotted my ex standing a short way down the path, her arms folded under her breasts.

“I’m not sure what I’m...Asher?” She looked back at me in confusion, then surprise. “What are you doing here? I was just thinking about you...”

Of course you were. “Good thoughts, I hope.”
