A Thankful Heart

Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.

(Hebrews 12:28 NLT)

As I think about the Thanksgiving holiday that we have just observed at the writing of this book at the Fox residence with my loving wife, two teenage children and my extended family, I am thankful for the wonderful time of fellowship and the many blessings the Lord has bestowed on us this past year. I am aware, however, that giving thanks during Thanksgiving time can be easy for people when things are going well for them. It is great that many families across the United States take time to pause around the dinner table to reflect on their many blessings. The problem for many people is that thankfulness has become something that is connected to an event or their current situation instead of a lifestyle for the other three hundred and sixty-four days of the year. It is my belief that a heart prepared for revival is a thankful heart. It is a heart that continually appreciates and celebrates the presence of God no matter the circumstances.

Several years ago we (my wife and I) attended a Supernatural Fivefold Ministry School in Miami at King Jesus Ministry, under the leadership of Apostle Guillermo Maldonado. The Holy Spirit impacted my wife and me in a powerful way as we received a tremendous impartation to flow in signs, wonders and miracles. It was also during this time that I learned something extremely important about attracting and hosting the presence of God—thankfulness. Apostle Maldonado drove home the message that we needed to celebrate the presence of God in our midst and not just tolerate Him. I learned that the Holy Spirit manifests Himself wherever He is appreciated and when worshippers are grateful for His presence.

Gratefulness is an important aspect all throughout the Bible. I am reminded of the story of the ten lepers.

Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us! “So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan. So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.”

(Luke 17:11–19 NKJV)

From the story of the ten lepers we gain tremendous insight into the mind of the Lord Jesus regarding the importance of thanksgiving.
