The other thing to bear in mind is that we’ll be using many of the techniques covered earlier in the Excel section. We’ll also be using some of the procedures created in that section.

I’ll explain more at the time.

Points To Note

Before diving in I’ll start with a quick safety briefing.

This section will not teach you how to use Access. I assume you already know how to create tables and run queries, etc.

We will cover some basic SQL techniques. But only at that basic level. And don’t worry if you’re not interested in SQL. Just ignore anything that’s not relevant to you.

If you do know your SQL and know all about Third Normal Form then please don’t be too critical of some of the “Un-Normal” design you’re going to encounter here. While I recognize the value of TNF I feel that slavish adherence can lead to unnecessary complication. And this is particularly so in a situation like this where the object is to help with understanding of concepts other than TNF persay.

Having said all that, I will be including an example later where we use VBA to achieve a level of normalisation.
