When Adam arrives at the office less than an hour later, a plan has formed in his mind. He won't call an emergency team meeting today, he'll talk to the team on Wednesday, in their usual catch‐up. He's aware that he will need some support though and he's keen to get the input of Paula, a wind energy expert who he's been in touch with about the next stage of the project.

He sits down at his desk just after 8 a.m. and composes an email to her, explaining his dilemma. He isn't expecting an immediate response as she's based in Salvador, on Brazil's north‐east coast. As soon as he hits ‘send’ on the email he feels lighter. His mind is a bit calmer and he's able to focus on some of the other tasks in his diary.

At around 2.30 p.m. he receives an email from Paula. She offers a number of suggestions, while acknowledging that they all need more work, but at least it's a start. By the time he's driving home he feels better.
