CHAPTER 17

POPTASTIC DEVELOPMENTS

The Pop-O-Matic 3000 rocked violently as the corn exploded. The massive container at the top was suddenly packed to the brim with delicious, steaming-hot popcorn.

‘Let’s taste it!’ Rosalba said. She shoved the lid aside and grabbed a handful.

The squirrels groaned as the scrumptious scent reached their noses.

‘Great Scott!,’ Cyril said. ‘It’s the best popcorn I’ve ever tasted.’

‘It’s fluffy!’ Rosalba agreed, chewing enthusiastically.

‘But remember,’ Fandango said sternly, ‘no more than five kilos of popcorn kernels at a time. The neutron capacitor just won’t take it.’

‘Five kilos,’ Cyril confirmed, patting the scales. ‘Not a kernel more.’

Fandango spun on his Cuban heels and led the delivery men away.

At that moment Cyril’s phone rang again. ‘The exterminators are arriving,’ he announced.

‘You can deal with them,’ Rosalba said. ‘I’m going up to my office to choose some nice fabrics for the new curtains.’

‘Come on, pals,’ Salty whispered. ‘Let’s get a look at the enemy.’

The squirrels scurried along a cavity, emerging at a tiny spyhole right above the REX sign. It gave them a perfect view of the street outside.

Seconds later, a bright yellow van pulled up. It had the following words written on the side:
