When Clinton’s emails were examined, it was found that few of them discussed government secrets; of the 7,000 emails released, only 125 were made classified, or secret, by the State Department. Clinton insisted she had never discussed anything that was classified at the time. Additionally, she did not break any laws; there is a law that requires government officials to move their private emails onto government servers, but it was not put in place until 2014, after Clinton was no longer the secretary of state. The State Department confirmed her claim that she had not sent or received information that was classified at the time. The Justice Department did launch an inquiry, or investigation, into the email issue, but it stated that it was not to see whether Clinton had broken any laws; instead, it was to determine how classified information was handled.
