6.3 Conclusions

Cyclodextrins can form inclusion complexes with several guest molecules by taking up a whole molecule or some part of it, into its cavity. These complex formations modify solubility of the molecule, increase the stability and decrease the volatility of compounds. These versatility properties of cyclodextrins and modified cyclodextrins have demonstrated wide range of applications of cyclodextrins in various fields such as pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food, agriculture, chemical industry and chromatographic techniques. However, it is also necessary to find out any possible interaction between these agents and other formulation additives because the interaction can adversely affect the performance of both. It is also important to have knowledge of different factors that can influence complex formation in order to prepare economically drug-cyclodextrin complexes with required properties. Recent developments in the field of biotechnology have gained lot of improvements in the efficient manufacture of cyclodextrins lowering the cost of these materials making highly purified cyclodextrins and cyclodextrins derivates.
