When we consider that the goal of exercise is simply to get the body moving, blood flowing, oxygen circulating, so as to create some energy, lose some weight, gain some muscle or gain some flexibility, it is a fact that all of this can be achieved without stressing the body.

One website and program that I found most informative, to the point of being almost invaluable was at www.nataliehodson.com. Natalie, is also from my native home state of Idaho. She is a beautiful person inside and out, and that really comes through in her blogs, programs and videos. Her program with Dr. Monique Middlekauff, “Abs, Core & Pelvic Floor” is what taught me that “less was more” when it came to abdominal exercises and releasing the pelvic floor. Their program really delves into the science as to why.

Unfortunately, just like adenomyosis, diastasis recti is considered as a “non-life-threatening condition.” Insurance companies consider it primarily a “cosmetic issue,” even though sixty-six percent of patients with a diastasis experience a higher degree of pain in the abdominal and pelvic regions and develop other issues, such as Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, various hernias, muscular-skeletal alignment issues, and even aortic aneurysm. It is because I developed a hernia, that I was able to have the entire procedure covered under insurance. The repair was done laparoscopically in July of 2017, nine days after moving and separating from my husband. After having the surgery, I have noticed a significant difference. I can actually feel my muscles working when I attempt to “suck in my gut.” The progress is slow, but again, realizing that my muscles had fifteen years of not being able to work together, it’s going to take some practice and some patience. Slow and steady.
