Let us all have a drink!

Then his voice changed as if he was making a toast:

Look stomach, rum coming!

Granny Ella and Grandpa Joe-Joe were standing over Boysie as he raised his hand to make the toast. He opened his eyes but did not recognize them. The scent coming from Boysie’s breath caused them to cast a questioning glance at Arnold. Arnold looked sheepishly at the floor. He was sure that Granny Ella would remind him of his own teenage bout with rum five years ago on a beautiful Christmas Day.

Much to Arnold’s relief, Granny Ella walked out of the room mumbling ominously, “Uh-huh, that Boysie is going to be a drunkard just like when Joe-Joe was a teenager! Uh-huh!”

She returned holding the bottom of her oil lamp. Arnold sprang from his seat, “Granny don’t do anything foolish. The boy only drank a little!”

“Little or much,” Granny replied, “the boy needs to be anointed with oil for his cup runneth over!”

Granny anointed Boysie with burnt oil and gradually Boysie began to get sober.

Poor Boysie opened his eyes wider, looked at his grandparents and said, “I only smell it, Granny! I only smell it!”

Granny Ella chuckled. “Boysie, I understand. But I wonder what would have happened if you had drunk some. Boy, you would have been drunk for years!”
