Two men got up and started toward her aggressively, making the barking noises in their language. She suddenly felt very foolish at her attempt at making peace. She was just about to retreat before Harq entered with his hands raised. He grunted in his language, “Peace… Peace,” and the two men stopped before reaching her. They barked and huffed again, waving their hands, gesturing for them to leave.

Harq took Sira by the shoulder, pulling her back when suddenly one of the older women toward the back of the cave grunted. The two angry men reluctantly backed up, and the older woman continued to argue with them until they retreated to their seats around the fire. The older woman walked forward and took Sira by the wrists, leading her close to where they sat. She took both the liver and heart, grunting something in her language and smiling. Then she gestured for Sira to take a spot around their fire.
