Chapter Seven | Danny

Danny and Peter had been on the phone on and off over several hours—for business. They spent some of their time feeling each other out on the selling price of the Humber Road property.

An offer had been sent and now they were in negotiations. Both were intent on getting the best deal for their client. They had started at 3.8 million and the seller had counter-offered with 4.1 million. Danny was trying to work a deal based on the fact the roof needed to be replaced along with several gas fireplaces. And it was possible the heritage home needed work done to the foundation. Danny's clients had countered the counteroffer with 3.95 million dependent on what was found during a full inspection of the home. It would slow down negotiations for a few days.

They'd switched to texting. Some interactions between real estate agents needed to remain private. It allowed them to discuss details before sending official documents.

<Danny: "My client will deduct any potential costs from their offer.">

<Peter: "Fair enough. I think my clients are amenable to that.">

<Danny: "Realistically, it'll end up around 3.9.">

<Peter: "My clients are expecting that. They know there are repairs to be done.">

<Danny: "Then we're headed in the right direction.">

<Peter: "We should have a deal soon.">

Danny tapped his finger on the edge of his phone. One of his assistants usually went through his phone once a week to make sure he hadn't forgotten anything. He'd kept it out of her hands for days now. Peter knew. They'd discussed getting burner phones. The idea seemed extreme.

For now, he was going to play keep away with his phone.

<Danny: "I'm excited about dinner tonight.">

<Peter: "Yeah, we have lots to talk about.">

Danny furrowed his brow. That sounded serious. His love for Peter had grown while they were apart. Thursday night's phone call lasted for hours and reinforced what he was feeling. He'd never fit that well with someone in his life. It would devastate him if Peter pulled away.

<Danny: "Are you planning on backing out on us?">

<Peter: "We'll talk later.">

Danny slipped his phone back into his suit pocket. He was going to try to not dwell on how cold Peter sounded over text. He turned back to his clients.

"We should hear back from the inspection company about an inspection date before the end of the day. They're usually quick about getting back to me."

His clients were a gay couple with plans to open a B&B in the home. There were zoning bylaw hoops to jump through before they could start their business, but Danny had assured them the property lent itself to such a venture and would receive approval from the city.

His mind turned back to Peter and his stomach twisted. His nerves were firing off alarm bells. What had changed? Peter had Samuel over for dinner the night before. Perhaps that's when the change of heart happened. Peter had made an excuse of being too tired to talk on the phone that same night. Last night. That should have been enough warning that something was up.
