In 1900, Ezra Bourne erected this two-story brick sales barn at 38 West High Street. Bourne was known as an expert horse dealer, and his business drew buyers from great distances. The new structure included an interior ramp that allowed horses to be kept on the second floor. Bourne’s son Bert assisted his father in the business.

By 1900, the Village of Oxford had a population of 2,009, and more businesses were being established beyond the High Street commercial district. This laundry was located on the northeast corner of South Elm and West Spring Streets. Before the end of the century, the building was converted to use by the Oxford Fire Department.
