The inside of the church has a totally different vibe when there's a party going on. The lights are low, and the whole place is flickering with candles while heavy music fills the air. Tex grabs a plastic cup off the bar and fills it from a keg before handing it to me with a flirty smile. "Gotta make sure you start the evening right."

I take it, feeling a little extra blasphemous in spite of not being religious. Since the whole church is a motorcycle club now, I suppose parties in the church are par for the course. Up front, the baptismal font is filled with ice, and has bottles sticking out of it.

I take a sip. It’s beer. Not my favorite, but right now Anne is mad at me and even though I don’t blame her, I’m in the mood to forget about it for a few hours. Besides, she has Bonnie, her new best friend.

Okay, maybe she isn’t the only one feeling a little replaced.

“Where are Ghost and Riot?” I ask.

“Don’t worry, they'll be here a little later.”

Slow, groovy hard rock fills the old church, seductive and grindy. There are even more people here tonight than there were the night Anne and I were brought in. In some ways it reminds me of the Burnout, except here, the only patches are Outlaw Sons. No other bikers are invited to this party, though there's plenty of girls hanging off their arms.

And other places. I take a big gulp of my beer.

“Can I ask you a question?” I lean in so Tex can hear me.

“Shoot.”

“Bonnie said the girls who hang out here are called sluts. Is that true? Or is she just messing with me?”

He laughs. “It’s true, club sluts is what we call them, but in other places they might be patch bunnies, sweetbutts or a bunch of other things. Some nicer than others. It all boils down to the same thing. They’re here because they want a taste of danger and a rugged biker to make them lose their minds, even if it’s just for the night.”

“Does that make me one? Is there an approved list somewhere? Do I have to put my name on it?” I giggle, more from nerves than the beer.

“Do you want to be?” Tex’s hand moves to the small of my back. “Is that why you’re dressed up to party tonight?”

“Maybe I do. Do you like it?”

Bonnie loaned me a short skirt and a shirt that’s long and flowy but nearly see through, and open on the sides. You can pretty much see my entire bra. She helped me style my hair in big waves, and my makeup is nearly as heavy as the other girls I see in the church. I even have a bright red silk scarf around my neck to hide the bandage.

Suddenly the crowd parts, exposing a circle of cheering men who are watching another two guys wrestle each other right in the middle of things. The men slam
