The weather is bleak, dreary and super annoying.

Where has the sun gone? It’s basically stopped shining since the rugby boys lost their big game. The entire vibe of the school has been kind of low this week. Honestly. It’s just a game. They’re taking it so hard.

I haven’t dared say that to anyone. I remember the stinging pain of losing an important netball or volleyball game, but I never used to let it drag me down so far.

I think it’s a combination of the cold, the clouds, the rain and the workload. The end of term is coming up fast, and assignment deadlines are piling up.

Everyone just seems kind of stressy, but I really don’t want it to dampen my I’m going to a concert in a few days!!!!! vibe. I don’t want to be chill and classy about it. I want to be excited, which is why after an extremely boring English lesson, I go hunting for Hayden.

If anyone can jump around in circles with me over Little Mix, it’s him. I’ll just make sure we’re in an empty classroom or something so we don’t embarrass ourselves. I hear the little snickers that follow Hayden sometimes. I’m not sure if he’s aware of them, but when we’re walking down a hall and he starts singing his words instead of saying them, or just randomly tells some girl that her hair looks amazing and asks what products she's using, well… it can be a little awkward. I mean, he’s a totally awesome person, and I adore his flamboyant side. I just hate the way it makes people stare at us or laugh behind our backs. It makes my skin itch.

Dating a guy like Hayden would draw unwanted attention all the time, and that’s something I’ve been going out of my way to avoid.

Why am I even thinking about this?

I don’t want to date Hayden. We’re just friends!

It’s morning break, and I need his smile to perk me up before I head into double statistics.

Slay me now. Why you ever need a double period for something so boring is beyond me.

“Hey, Bee.” I spot my sister’s red hair and race after her. “Seen Hayden around?”

“No.” She shakes her head and gives me a tired smile.

“You feeling okay today?”

“Why does everyone keep asking me that?” She softens her snippety voice with a forced smile.

I narrow my eyes at her. “I just want to check that you’re not sick or anything. Maybe you’ve picked up some kind of virus that’s messing with your stomach and making you feel all tired. You went to bed at like eight thirty on Saturday.”

“I was exhausted from feeling so bad over the whole Beck food-fight thing.” She touches her belly and shakes her head. “I’m fine. Really.”

“Where are you off to now?”

“Library. Need to do some research for this history assignment I’m working on. I forgot to do it last night.”

She forgot to do homework?

Something is seriously off.

I open my mouth to say that, but she darts away from me, raising her hand in farewell.
