Ten large cabins (typically 4.18 m2; 45 square feet) were provided for tourists, together with a smoking room and captain’s cabin in a large deck house (111.5 m2; 1,200 square feet), built to cover the whole width of the after deck. A separate large deck house (33.22 m2; 357.5 square feet) abaft the foremast contained a dining saloon, galley and pantry, with the bridge immediately above (although the wheel was on the poop deck).62 This was joined to the main deck house by two elevated gangways creating a small ‘promenade deck’ and providing secure communication between the deck houses in bad weather. Officers and crew were all accommodated in the forward part of the main deck, linked by a passageway to the engine room.
