Chapter Eleven
We decided to walk to the inn. He had brought a bag with him in case he decided to stay with me for the night. I had convinced him that the giant clawfoot tub was a great place to relax at the end of the night and would be a way to help him sleep before he had to go back to work tomorrow. Back to the real world and outside our bubble of us. I was kind of sad that he would have to leave in the morning to go to work. I had already planned to go to the shops that were in town and take time to meander around. I still needed to purchase some souvenirs for Tessa, Sarah, and the baby too. The baby was still snug inside Tessa, as I had been checking each day because I was determined to not miss the baby being born.
âSo youâre not completely caught off guard because I donât know you that well yet, thereâs a small event happening inside with Maria.â
âA small event?â I raised my eyebrow at him.
âYes,â he winced. âAre you mad? I didnât know how youâd feel about surprises.â
âNo, of course, Iâm not mad. Just, Iâm a little awkward.â
He laughed. âItâll be fine. Iâm here right beside you.â
And with that, he opened the door. Inside, I could see lights from the library, and I heard loud rumbles of conversations happening. I began to worry just how small of an event was this going to be as I knew only him, Maria, Connie, and her baby. Rounding the corner, Maria saw me first, and shouted Happy Birthday. The others turned and raised their glasses as well. There in the corner was Sarah. I ran over to hug her tightly.
âYou are in big trouble,â I was both laughing and wiping the tears as I pulled back. âYou shouldnât be traveling this far with Tessa so close to labor.â
âShe would have murdered me if I didnât stop in for this. I already had to travel here to pick up some evidence for an upcoming case I have next month. It was things that had to be picked up directly and not mailed due to legal purposes. When I reached out to Maria about having to travel up here, she told me about the plans, so I came a little sooner so I could celebrate with you. Oh, hold on.â
She pulled her phone out, and I called Max over to meet Sarah. As he was walking over, she had got Tessa on the phone so we could see each other. She was smiling, relaxing in bed. Her face when she saw Max made me laugh out loud and nodded slightly just so she could see that I completely agreed with her assessment.
âIâm sorry I couldnât come, Delph, your little niece or nephew is already causing us trouble.â She said, smiling.
âDonât be blaming my sweet baby!â I chided her.
âI love you so much, Happy Birthday. Max,â she spoke to him directly, âthank you for spoiling my dearly loved sister for her birthday.
