Write

Choose one of the markets you identified, and according to their genre and subject needs, and based on your interests and research, write an article, essay, short story, or poem to submit.

Bonus

Once your article, essay, short story, or poem is ready to send, draft a query or submission letter or email, according to the guidelines you researched. If you’re part of a writing group or know other writers who are willing, have them review your piece to identify any problem areas you may have overlooked. If you don’t have others who can help, put your work away for a day or two, then come back to it with fresh eyes for self-editing. When the pieces are ready, seal, stamp, and mail the envelope, or hit send on the email.

If you’ve been considering writing a book, or have already started writing one, take the next step today in beginning a book proposal according to the publisher or agent guidelines you found in your research.

To get you started, we’ve included a few resources in Appendix 4 about writing book proposals.
