“S

omeone needs to knock some sense into this asshole!” The blue-suited lawyer tried to wiggle his arm free from the grasp of his friend wearing the paisley tie. “What’s with these kids, thinking they know…”

Braxton’s heart pounded mercilessly against the fighting cage of his ribs. He had taken a deep breath to steady his quivering nerves while at the same time pointing across the few feet leading to the back door. “I think it’s best you leave.”

“I think it’s best you…” the lawyer wearing the blue suit mocked. His words slurred as if they were trying to gain traction on a grease-coated tongue. “What’s wrong? Too scared to finish what you started?”

“I didn’t start anything,” Braxton firmly stated. “And no, I’m not too…”

“Just go.” Braxton’s manager stepped to his side and gestured at the door. “It’s better for everyone if you just leave quietly and we’ll sort this out another day.”

“Another day?” The blue-suited lawyer swayed as if he were a tree branch blowing in the wind. “Things will be taken care of, now!” He pointed at Braxton. “And it’ll end once he gets his scrawny ass outside.”

“He’s not going out there,” Braxton’s manager said. “This is not how we’re resolving this.”

“Come on, let’s get out of here,” the lawyer in the paisley tie pleaded. “There’s a bar down the street that has…”

“Screw that.” The wrinkles on the forehead of the blue-suited lawyer deepened in annoyance. “Once I lay this asshole out, we’re coming right back in here to drink.”

The man wearing the paisley tie sighed. “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“I don’t care what you think.” The lawyer in the blue suit wiped the corner of his mouth. “I’m telling you, that’s what’s going to happen.”

“You best listen to your friend” Braxton’s manager uneasily held her stance atop her beige high-heeled shoes. “We will deal with this another day when you’re sober.”

The blue-suited lawyer postured. “I’m perfectly fine right now, you dumb bitch!”

“Hey, there’s no need to…” the man in the paisley tie hesitated to readjust his thoughts. “You know better than to talk to anyone, let alone a woman, like that.”

“I call it as I see it.” The blue-suited man glared at the manager, then Braxton.

Braxton’s manager defiantly folded her arms over her torso. “Enough, already. I’m asking you politely to leave.” Her chest heaved like a bellows that had vacuumed incensed air into her lungs. “It’s in your best interest to simply walk out that door.”

The blue-suited lawyer laughed. “Like you have any authority to tell me what I can and can’t do.”

“I certainly do so,” Braxton’s manager countered. “If you don’t leave now, then I’m calling the police.”

“Come on, let’s go.” The lawyer in the paisley tie tried to nudge his friend toward the door.

The man in the blue suit stumbled but managed to regain his balance. He flayed his arms wildly so no one could touch him. “Enough!” His face reddened with rage as he pointed at the manager. “Especially that bitch!”

Braxton stepped in front of his manager.
