"Taylor, you have a call."
He closed his eyes and tried not to let the annoyance bubbling in his chest overflow. The chances were he would launch into a shouting spree that would make Niki and Vickie rush in to see what was wrong. Running logistics was mentally exhausting and tended to go a little better when he was on his own with nothing and no one to distract him.
Desk hadn't gotten the memo yet, though.
"Who is it?" he asked and didnât look up from his computer screen.
"Dr. Salinger Jacobs says he would like a word with you. Should I ask him to call at another time?"
"No, I can take the call.â He immediately straightened in his seat and shook his head. âI have to contact him anyway."
"Iâll put the call through."
The TV screen showed the impossibly young doctor, who looked like he was talking to someone off-screen before he turned his attention to the conversation.
"Sal, nice to hear from you again," Taylor said and stretched his arms above his head. "I was about to call you about a problem that dropped into my lap."
"What a coincidence." The other man chuckled. "Because a problem of yours dropped into my lap recently. Well, Anja's lap, but then she dropped it on me to deliver to you. Should we do yours first and then mine?"
"No, you called. It's only right that you get to share what has you in a bind."
"It isnât a bind as suchâmore an opportunity for you. So maybe calling it a problem wasn't the right choice of words. It might be a problem down the line, but if we nip it in the bud, it might be an opportunity. So, a friend of Anja's sent her a message saying they had received an offer from an interested party to attack you guys from cybersphere. He said he didn't want the job because he doesnât fuck with a leprechaun. I feel like that has something to do with you? Especially since he mentioned it was an issue with a company we were directly involved with and unless I missed any connections we might have with the little folk of Ireland, that was probably a reference to you."
The kid could talk, and talk fast. Taylor had a feeling he would benefit from taking recordings and playing it all back when he had the time, but that would have to wait. For now, he was left trying to determine the details while Sal sucked in a deep breath.
"Well, that's certainly the kind of heads-up we appreciate," he admitted and raised an eyebrow. "Did she happen to pick up on who put the job out there?"
"She's working on that. As a matter of fact, her friend referred the assholes to her so she could do as she pleased with the job. Itâs an interesting take on the concept, between you and me. With that said, I don't know why anyone would want to infiltrate your company, of course, but they are trying to
