Later that evening, Jason pulls up to Ashleyâs house. Itâs a decent-sized brick house with beige shutters to match the trim of the roof and the front door. The home is decked in Christmas lights. Ashleyâs folks are the type to throw up decorations as soon as November hits. The yard is kept up rather nicely but could use a mow. From outside, the only visible lights are in the foyer of the house and Ashleyâs bedroom. Her window is not seen from the front of the house, but off to the side, which reminds Jason that he should park his car a little farther down the road just in case her parents decide to come home a little earlier. He drives about twenty feet down the road almost to the neighborâs driveway. From his side mirror he can see Ashleyâs bedroom window. A faint meow catches Jasonâs attention. He looks over at part two of Ashleyâs birthday giftâan all-black kitten with amber eyes that pierces through oneâs soul. Jason picks up the kitten, leering with a smile. The kitten stares back, and again meows. Jason seems to have already gotten slightly attached. Heâs not really a pet kind of guy, but this kitten is just too damn cute.
âAshley is going to love you, I promise.â Jason gives the kitten a kiss on the cheek. He starts heading toward the house. Silent lightning flickers the sky. The air is brisk and slightly windy. Dead leaves skip the neighborhood streets. The night feels desolate, borderline creepy. Jason opens his navy-blue workmanâs jacket and places the kitten in a spacious pocket on the inside. He gets to the front porch and rings the doorbell. A cheesy chime blares throughout the house. Ding-dong-ding-dong-dong-dong-ding-dong.
Jason rolls his eyes at the over-the-top chime. âSo stupid,â he mutters to himself. A faint meow is heard from inside his jacket. âHey, hey, shush. Itâs a surprise, okay.â
Ashley opens the front door, looking absolutely stunning. She favors a sexy 1930s burlesque model. Her allure is classic and erotic with just a hint of danger. Jason is taken aback. Oh Iâm definitely getting laid tonight! âHey babe,â he says, astonished. âYou look incredible!â
âThank you. Come in,â Ashley says with a smile. She grabs hold of Jasonâs hand and pulls him inside a neat and clean entryway and into her slice of suburban Americana. Being the only child, you can say she is a bit spoiled, but the love is on full display with the house décor. Family photos line different portions of the walls, a Thanksgiving photo here, a soccer photo there. A section of diplomas on the wall highlights her parentsâ accomplishments.
Christmas decorations give the atmosphere a warm and welcoming feeling. Lights are strung about, garland weaves around the staircase railing, and a choo-choo train circles the ceiling trim from the foyer to the living room to the kitchen and all the way back to the foyer. The house feels like a true Christmas wonderland. Jason closes the door behind him then leans over and gives Ashley a kiss.
