CHAPTER 13

NINETY LOOMS

A

s soldiers arrive rumors begin to spread about strange beasts beginning to appear. Rogue members coming back confirming the claims Eisaku sends a team into the field to investigate and claim any they can find. Nine craving to be out if the city tags along with them. They set up camp deep in the woods. Much further out than their normal camp.

Nine makes a spot up in a tree for herself making sure she can still feel the events in the forest. Tayjir disappears into the trees to get wood for the fire while Rix and the others finish up camp. An hour or so later Tayjir comes back with wood “Hey Nine! Nine! Where did you go?” She jumps down from her tree to the grass below “What do you want?” He turns to her “Oh there you are little lady. I’ve got something to show you.” She sighs “Don’t call me that.”

He chuckles leading her through the trees. “I read some report stating that you found some black substance a while back, correct?” She nods with a yawn “Yeah.” He leads her to a large hole in the ground filled to the brim with a bubbling black liquid. “What do you make of this?” She crouches down “Have you tried touching it?” he crouches next to her “Yes, it bubbled and steamed away but did leave my hand burned.” She reaches down covering her hand in the liquid it turns to steam leaving behind no mark “How interesting.”

She puts her hand to the ground the goop instantly burning the grass turning to steam. “Well It had to get here somehow. I’ll search the area see what I can find.” Tayjir folds his arms “You can’t go alone it's too dangerous. We don’t know what's out there!” She hums a short reply, moving her palms up one moving below the other “Let's see human vs ancient being with enough power to wipe all existence from this plane. I’ll take my chances on my own.”

She walks off into the trees Tayjir rolls his eyes following her “You’re just as stubborn as my brother! You’re not going alone you can’t even see.” She jumps tackling him to the ground as a twisted claw rips through a tree at Tayjir. She rolls over back to her feet pulling her sword. A large Twill slugs out from the shadows. It stares at them, slowly turning, limping away towards camp. Tayjir rolls up from the ground, his sword ready. “I got this! You head back to camp!”

She cocks her head to the side “What do you think would happen if we threw it in the pit?” He looks at her shocked she suggested such a thing “I don’t know. We have to keep the others safe!” She walks to the Twill jumping up-to its head covering its eyes “Guide me Tayjir.” He grumbles making noises to draw the creature to the pit. Their plan works the Twill limping over. Nine jumps down as the creature falls into the pit.
