“What’ll it be tonight?” Diego yawns, strutting in his soldier outfit. “Egg the school? Raw meat in the mailboxes? Carve Robbie’s weird poetry into the oaks again?” He sounds as bored as the list.

“Maybe we could just take the kids trick-or-treating this year,” Lou says nervously. She’s always been anxious about getting into trouble, and now she’s gotten old enough to worry about losing her scholarship. She has a life she’s excited to grow into. Something she doesn’t want to jeopardize.
