WHERE DID MY ANCESTORS COME FROM?

So from where did your ancestors come? As Maurice Gleeson reminded us earlier in this chapter, many people take atDNA tests to determine their ethnic makeup.22 For some individuals, this may be their prime motivation. If this is the case, it helps build our genetic genealogy databases so we all benefit, unless those persons seeking their homelands become disillusioned by their admixture results. Admixture predictions are an area where the application of genetics is on less than solid ground. It is not that the genetics is at fault. Rather, it is the inexact knowledge of where particular populations have lived within the various time/location continua. Fortunately, we are assisted by population geneticists, anthropologists, and archaeologists, among others, as we climb this steep learning curve. These related fields are progressing quickly, though much is still not known.
