CHAPTER 12

Assuming the removal of a vampire from a contract was even possible, would Dash and Bishop continue to remain here in this home with Malik?

Would they want to after his treatment of her?

Would they actually care?

She thought they would. A part of her, deep down, knew they accepted her. Even though she wasn’t a true blood demon, she brought something to the table. They chose her, not the other way around. She was their concubine and they were her vampires.

Period.

However, what would it mean to Malik?

Would he feel betrayed?

Not that it necessarily mattered to her right now, it would, in the long run, matter to Dash and Bishop.

The only part of this not in her corner was they had been brothers-in-arms for centuries, whereas she’s been here for what, a second? Well, more like a few weeks, at this point, but compared to centuries it felt as if it were nothing more than miniscule.

And that’s exactly how Malik made her feel. As if she were inept.

She may not have a college education, she may not have shit to her name, but she had her fucking pride.

Wiping her eyes, she sniffed, staring out her bedroom window. She pulled her legs to her chest and rested her cheek on her knees. She had never felt like a prisoner to any type of institution, but today, that’s exactly how she felt. She was here for one reason and one reason one: sustenance. She let her feelings get in the way of all that had happened.

Dash and Bishop may not have treated her as such, but she couldn’t get the nagging feeling to stop poking her as a reminder of why she was there. In the distance, a raccoon scurried across the lawn under the light of the moon. His eyes glowed as helooked toward her window.

How I wish to be free, just like you.

She let out a long sigh. Her heart leapt at the knock on her bedroom door. Not expecting anyone right now, she didn’t answer. Brandi wasn’t in the mood to talk. Even if it was Malik coming to apologize, but she had serious doubts it was him.

Once more, the knock. Then a voice.

“Brandi?” It was Bishop. “Brandi, please let us in. Dash and I would like a word.”

Taking in a deep breath, she exhaled and crawled across her bed. She padded toward the door and made one last effort to wipe at her face, hoping mascara and who knows what else wasn’t streaked down her cheeks.

She opened the door and kept her gaze cast to the floor. She saw only two sets of feet, not three.
