Reverse Engineering a Database

The Data Modeling component is in the middle of the MySQL Workbench home page, and you click the Create EER Model from Existing Database link to reverse-engineer an existing database. The middle section of the MySQL Workbench home page follows to connect the text with the process.

Clicking the Create EER Model from Existing Database link launches the Reverse Engineer Database wizard. Like other wizards, it depends on a pre-existing connection.

The example uses a non-super user account to demonstrate that the root (super) user isn’t required when exporting a single schema (database). The connection can be to a local or remote server, and the wizard’s functionality is completely independent of the location of the MySQL Server because the connection creates a level of abstraction.
