Chapter 12

Blake

I was being a fool. I knew it, but there was nothing I could do to stop it. I had been patient, dutiful, calm, and collective for two weeks. I had sat and watched as Kenya had sauntered in and out of class. I had watched just as transfixed as I always had as she had sat in my class. I had marveled at the amazing woman she was and knew that she would soon be mine. I thought it would have been easier knowing that I had kissed her. Knowing that she felt the same way as I did. That we wanted to be together but that we both knew the importance of waiting. It had only made things harder.

Every time I saw her, I was reminded of what her lips felt like pressed up against mine. Whenever she raised her hand to answer a question, I thought back to how her hands had felt when they had slid down my back. When her eyes would lock on mine and she would smile, I was reminded of how she had looked, how she had stared at me after we had kissed. I kept telling myself it was only going to be for a little while. That I could do it. That I had given Kenya my word that I would.

It hadn't been easy, but I survived the first week. I buried myself in my work and in getting back in contact with some associates I had lost touch with after I sold my company. I was looking to see if some of them might want to give guest lectures either this semester or next year and thought it was best to get the ball rolling now. That it kept me from thinking and dreaming about Kenya was a plus. I stayed up late so that I was too exhausted to think about her when I dreamed. But it didn't work, she still was there. Every night. So bad, that I woke up every morning and reached for her.

By the end of the second week, I knew I couldn't go on like this. I was starting to lose focus. I was starting to get surly with the other students and professors. It was starting to affect my work and my judgment. I couldn't let that happen. I wasn't going to let it happen. The only thing that was going to fix that was talking to Kenya. As much as I had tried to stay away from her, and to not be alone with her. I knew that was exactly what I needed to do so we could figure this out. At first, the thought of just knowing I was going to see her, that I could talk to her made me feel better. But the more I thought about it, the more I knew it wasn't enough. I knew that it needed to be more than just a conversation. As much as I had tried to fight it, as much as it scared me to admit it, I needed to be with her.
