“Joe!” she cried and wrapped her arms around him. “Thank you for coming! But what are you doing here?”

Dr. Bell stepped into the shed, removing his cloak.

“David came ’round to fetch me,” he said. “Told me you were having trouble with your machine and thought I might be able to help.”

“I’m sorry, Janie,” said David. “I know your project is a secret, but since Doctor Bell already knew it…”

“Oh, it’s wonderful,” she said. “Thank you both.”

“Now,” said Dr. Bell. “Shall we begin?”
