1. Thread the yarn onto a needle, double it, and make a knot at the end.

2. Poke the needle between or through the strands as shown in the illustration and pull the knot into the rope.

3. Wrap tightly and evenly against the lay of the rope (opposite to the direction in which the rope strands are twisted). Wrap until the wrapping is approximately as wide as the rope is thick. Place the needle against the lay and stick it through or under a strand and out near the wrapping.

4. Let the yarn follow one of the notches between the rope strands toward the left. Poke the needle through the strand against the lay and close to the wrapping. Pull tight.
