An hour later, Aaryan walked in through the private entrance of Club Poseidon and paused. The club was empty, save for the cleaning staff and the lone man who stood at the railing, waiting for him. His brothers had insisted on coming with him, but Aaryan had rejected their offer. He needed to do this on his own.

His heart was heavy as he strode forward. As if sensing his attention on him, the man whirled and, for the first time in twelve long years, Aaryan came face to face with the man who’d been like a brother to him at one time. Dev Luthra.

Aaryan’s steps slowed until he halted altogether. His entire body stiffened. Thunder assaulted his ears. It was his own heart thumping loudly, obliterating all other sounds. This man had betrayed him in the worst possible way and was responsible for his family’s misery, their misfortune, and for their deepest loss. God! Years had passed, and Dev’s desertion still stung. The pain of that hadn’t gone away; it hadn’t lessened and remained fresh till date.

Memories slammed through Aaryan’s brain. Memories he’d refused to revisit in years. Memories that stabbed like a dagger inside his chest.

Aaryan consoling Dev when his mother passed away…

Aaryan and Dev walking together to their class in college…

Avi and Dev laughing as Vihaan teased them…

All four of them walking in the forest behind their house…

His parents being shot…

Avi hurt…

Pain. So much pain hit him. He had suppressed it over the years, never allowing himself to feel. He’d channeled all that pain, moulded it into a strong will to survive, to look after his siblings, and to ensure they were safe. But now, it all came rushing back, reminding him of the sharp sting of betrayal by this man—someone he had trusted implicitly at one time and who still held the power to destroy them all.

So many scenes from the past escaped from that box he kept locked in his brain. They swarmed through his mind at a dizzying pace, every image clear and precise as if it had happened just a few minutes ago. Darn his memory for not even fuzzing the images of the long past. That’s why he kept those memories tightly sealed.

A low growl escaped his throat. It was too much. The memories were too much, too harsh and too real. All this while, Aaryan had assumed that Vihaan was the reckless one, that if Vihaan came face to face with Luthra, he’d be the one to end him. But Aaryan had underestimated his own rage and violence. It swirled and swirled inside him, like a volcano waiting to erupt.

His fists curled. The urge to end this man’s existence and hurt him, like he had hurt Aaryan and the ones Aaryan loved, crashed through him, wiping out all rational thought. He breathed hard, forcing himself to remember the faces of his loved ones—Vihaan, Avi, Neil and Shaurya…and now Myra and Tiya...and Myra’s baby.

He reminded himself that he was here for them and that Dev would continue to live because of them.
