For an academic look at the history of Washington DC, visit the largest university museum in the city. It features the Albert H. Small Washingtoniana Collection, which consists of 1,000 artifacts, including hand-drawn maps and a letter from George Washington to Congress describing the plans for the new capital. The museum is also home to more than 19,000 textiles from five continents, including carpets from Spain, Turkey, Egypt, and Iran, as well as ancient textiles from as early as 2500-3000 BC.
