We were out of time. It was likely Azalea would be murdered and eaten the moment her kidnapper got his hands on her.

“It has to be Akeela, right?” Drax said, putting together one of the bone guns I’d brought with us.

I slid the bullets into mine and prepared the gun ready to fire. I’d take down anyone who got between me and rescuing Azalea. “Yeah. I think so. He failed in his first attempt, so this time he brought more fire power and took Hosner down.”

Our brother, Hosner, was standing, but he looked terrible. His eyes were sunken, and his skin was a pale gray color. He was shaking, though he tried to hide it.

“How do we find Akeela?” Hosner asked.

“We go straight to Mother.” I walked to the main door and gestured to my brothers. “We tell her what happened, and she’ll tell us how to find Akeela.”

Drax stepped up behind me. “What if she doesn’t?”

I shrugged. “Then we kill everyone.” My eyes narrowed. “And we make that consequence clear to Mother from the outset, should she choose not to cooperate with us.”

Something we hadn’t addressed was what we would do if our mate died. The people of our race only had one fated mate.

If Azalea died, then Drax, Hosner and I would never know love, desire, or true happiness again. I wasn’t sure if my brothers or I would want to continue living in a world like that. But instead of bringing that up, I led my brothers out into The Marketplace, and set my tail on high alert, ready to strike.
