1 c. butter, divided
1/2 head cabbage, torn into bite-size pieces
3 sleeves round, buttery crackers, divided
salt and pepper to taste
2-1/2 c. whipping cream or milk
1 egg, beaten
In a stockpot over medium heat, melt 1/4 cup butter. Add cabbage and cook until translucent, about 10 to 15 minutes. Grease a 2-quart casserole dish; add 2 sleeves crackers, finely crushed, to form a crust along the bottom and sides of dish. Layer cabbage over crackers; sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cube remaining butter and place evenly over cabbage. Top with remaining sleeve of crackers, coarsely crushed. Pour cream or milk evenly over casserole; slowly pour egg evenly over top layer. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes, until liquid is absorbed and crust is golden. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
