You can also do this practice more informally, perhaps while sitting on a bus or train, or at your desk. You can do it standing up or lying down. Practice doing it as often as you can in a variety of situations and locations, including at night.
OTHER OPTIONS
Sometimes people find paying attention to the breath a bit tricky, and it can make you feel a little panicky. If that happens, experiment with Paying Attention to the Body (see page 71) or Breathing Through Soles of the Feet (see page 67) instead. From time to time, experiment with tuning into the breath toward the end of one of these practices, and notice how that feels. If it feels okay, continue; if not, itâs fine to simply stay with the body.
