Download the StampBuildNumber.ps1 script provided in the course material. Check-in the StampBuildNumber.ps1 script into the script folder as illustrated in this screenshot:

Permissions: You'll need to edit build definition permissions to execute this recipe; you can get these permissions by being added to the Build Administrators Group.

How to do it…

Navigate to the Build hub in the FabrikamTFVC Team Project by browsing to http://tfs2015:8080/tfs/DefaultCollection/FabrikamTFVC/_build. Select the FabrikamTFVC CI Build for editing.

Navigate to the General tab and change the Build number format field to 1.0.$(Year:yy)$(DayOfYear).$(BuildID).

Navigate to the Repository tab in the build definition, select the Labeling Of Source option on successful build, and change the Label format field to $(build.buildNumber).

Navigate to the Build tab, click on Add build step..., and select the PowerShell task:
