Elegant gold letters trailed behind the little creatures, as if written by an invisible hand. A sentence shimmered in the air:

Books are butterflies with stories on their wings.

“Lovely!” Mei sighed.

The Book Butterflies hovered in midair beside the glowing words. “Now it’s your turn.”

Mei felt her stomach flip. “What do you mean?”

“Write something beautiful for us,” said the orange butterfly.

“And perfect,” added the blue one.

Perfect? “Um, Quinn or Aisha, do you want to try?” Mei asked, turning to her friends.

“No, you are carrying the book. You must do it,” the butterflies said firmly.

“I don’t know what to write,” Mei groaned.

“Don’t think too hard about it,” Quinn said. “Just listen to your heart.”

“My heart is beating too fast for me to hear anything,” Mei grumbled.

“You’re a Treasure Dragon,” Aisha reassured her. “You’ll come up with something that really shines.”

Mei loved that her friends believed in her. But she wasn’t so sure.

Then Quinn made a great suggestion. “Pretend the sky is a stage and you are doing a performance.”

Instantly, Mei’s nerves dropped away. She always felt brave onstage. Mei flapped her wings and shot smoothly into the air. Using the tip of her tail, she began to trace out words in the air. When she’d finished, Mei watched the sky anxiously.
